My Holiday and Other Occasions Unrant Rant

Posted by Yorkshire on 2011/11/23

You know it’s coming. The house is on High Alert. Company is coming. And the great UPHEAVAL begins. Like all families you want to make the house look like it is not lived in. So, the first thing that was stopped was “the project” because it meant sanding spackle even though I have a palm sander with the shop vac attached. Then the area invasion starts. First, all your daily stuff on the table must be quarantined. So, the daily routine is altered. Then the stack of mail that was split into subsections of Bills, Magazines, and stuff you need two weeks to decide to throw it out. With the grandbabies at 11 months acting like sea turtles, they are officially moving on their own. So, baby proofing everything is in order. Then the turkey. (By this time the cat has been spooked by the sea turtles and is hiding under the quilt on our bed.) We’ll sit down to our dinner, and two people will play Jack-in-the-Box jumping up to get stuff.

Then the grand clean-up starts, and pumpkin pie shows up. (With REAL whipped cream) Mostly everybody helps to clean-up. My yearly job is to produce a turkey bone carcas and cut off all the left-overs. Of course FOOTBALL. But the “Harbaugh Bowl” is on tomorrow night – RAVENS and 49ers. It’s the first time two brothers as head coaches play against each other. Their father said he was going to hide.

Then Friday comes. Now here is where the “real fun” begins, where did you hide all the stuff that usually sits out waiting for some action. You’re still in a Turkey Coma, but it will give you something to do all day, that is if you are not dragged out kicking and screaming to Black Friday sales.

I wrote this on my Facebook page yesterday:

I didn’t really want to go to work today — although, every time that I think that, I remind myself that there are a lot of men out there who wish that they had a job to go to — but then I found out that my darling bride (of 32 years, 6 months and 4 days) had started a mad cleaning spree at home, drafting both of our daughters as well, and I’d have had to clean too if I had been home. The rugs and the couch were steam cleaned, everything was washed and polished, and the after-painting disaster has been completely swept away.

I got up this morning, brushed my teeth and showered — I’m sure everyone wants to know that — and flipped back and forth between Fox & Friends (Juliet Huddy is wearing a short red dress and showing off some awesome legs), CNN’s American Morning and Today, to watch the news. and just woke up my darling bride a few minutes ago; she always watches the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV.

The turkey is my duty, and I’ll start the preparations in a few minutes.

The stuffing is done, and the turkey is stuffed, and roasting at 325º F; it went in the oven at 0953. SPC Pico made breakfast for everybody, eggs Florentine or something like that — leaving the cheese off for me — and the others are downstairs watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on television.

Now comes the few dead hours between the turkey going in the oven and dinner being served.

PA starts antler season Today. In rural PA, it’s a practically a state holiday. Most rural county schools are closed.

i was using advil. im switching to the aleve, thanks york.

schools were closed here and so were all the machine shops and factories. there are about 100 tool & machine shops in this area, they all get ‘first day of buck’ off . paid. lol

my brother, sister and brother in law scored in the hunt today.

the sheer volume of people ‘packing heat’ around here today irritates the heck out of the liberals. heh

If you can irritate a liberal, you’ve done your good deed for today.
