Tax Cheat Tim Geithner’s Phony Detroit Employment Claims

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/06/01

Ed Morrissey exposes Treasury Secretary and tax cheat Tim Geithner’s phony claims about Detroit jobs during Geithner’s propaganda blather. As Morrissey shows with actual job numbers, they just aren’t there. Morrissey explains why: People have just dropped off all the rolls; they’re no longer in the market for jobs and thus don’t count as unemployed.

I’ll go a step further. The people aren’t there, either. Michigan is the only state in the union to actually lose population between 2000 and 2010, losing 0.6 percent of total population. And Detroit did far worse.

Detroit lost 237,000 people between 2000 and 2010, or roughly 25 percent of its population. I would hazard a guess that no-growth in employment coupled with a 0.6 percent drop in state population and a 25 percent drop in city population could prevent the unemployment rate from dropping.
