The Good Ol’ Days
Posted by John Hitchcock on 2009/04/21
I used to play a text-based internet roleplay game. I had a blast playing a certain hard to get along with character that was pretty much type-cast in attitude. Once I got rid of the character, I put it up in the afterlife thread so people would know it was gone and comment on it. I decided to pull that afterlife thread out and put it here so I can occasionally take a trip down memory lane as the afterlife forum cleans out old threads from time to time.
If you’re interested in that sort of thing, you can read below the fold. If not, consider yourself spared of a large piece of spamminess.

You are looking at a behemothic male griffon.
Overall, you are in excellent condition.
Standing seven foot tall at the shoulder and measuring ten feet shoulder
to flank with a wingspan of fifteen feet, this beast is a specimen of power.
His golden-brown coat is stretched tautly over his rippling muscles. Even
his tail shows a sturdy musculature, except for the mahogany-brown tuft at
the tip, which almost seems a plaything for children. His talons are well
manicured though sharp and his curved beak appears strong enough to crush a
thigh bone with ease.
Overall, you are in excellent condition.

o.o PK frenzy get to ya finally? What happened? All in all, I didn’t like Shaloush. But then again every character can’t always be liked. He was quick, hasty, rude, and mean. Staple points of a barbarian to be honest. G’luck with your next, if there is one.

That about summed him up. Hope that’s what you were going for. Even got to see your birdie poo on the inn floor in Nerina once.
To be fair that’s about all I saw of him, so maybe he had a better side.

I resent that – I’m not always rude!
Actually, I find this quote interesting as it could have come from either Pushing40 or from his character, who came from Zhenshi.

Not staple points of a griffon.
Try again next time.

Actually, i could see a griffon being like that towards darkies. He was probably more animalistic than sentient. I mean it could happen and that would make him meaner, ruder etc.

Shaloush was always as opposite from Aiden as any two griffons could be. But, for reasons unique to each of them, they always had a sort of mutual respect, if not a true friendship. Useless in PK, fun for RP. Very P40. Would’ve enlightened him if I could.
Come back soon.

Didn’t love him, but you knew that already.
He was pretty well played for a feral griffon, though.

I loved this char for the very small part I saw of him on Eihwaz… Don’t think I’ve seen Cha: Repulsive played out so thoroughly before.

I wanted to see how a char with zero charisma would turn out and for the most part, I quite enjoyed it. The main thrust of my rp with him was built around the CHA. Everything else was a result of the central idea.
Shaloush was quick to assume the actions of others were meant to disrespect him and never believed he did or said anything wrong. Another griffon once told Shaloush that Shaloush was giving griffon haters a reason to hate griffons. Shaloush growled at him.
And no, this wasn’t a rage delete. It actually took me two weeks of trying before I could finally get that plug pulled. And that line at the bottom of my first post was the final words of Shaloush before he flew off into the desert, never to be seen again. I enjoyed the fighting, even though I was usually on the losing end of things. I think he yelled at his own companions when he was on the winning side more than he yelled at the others.
Anyway, I found out 26 hp trains is max for a griffarb. I put 26 trains into hp, 4 trains into dex, started out max str and con, and threw 2 trains into wis. Overall, he was an enjoyable char to run. And all the interactions I had with others were quite enjoyable.

I had some interactions with Shaloush, I liked him. Got him killed a few times too(in one trip!).

I never really liked shaloush and with my character, she attempted to avoid him as much as possible. But, that was the point!

I’m sorry Shaloush didn’t live up to your standards, Lakir. I work very hard to make my chars live up to your lofty standards and I am highly distraught over my dismal failure with Shaloush.
That’s a lie.
Which of my chars should I duplicate next? I’ve had different chars with wholly different personalities, so I’m confused as to what you want. And I live to please you.
That’s a lie.
As far as leveling a zero-cha char, once you get used to the amount of time it takes, it all becomes relative. Yeah, people would gain half a level per tick of mine, so what, hehe.

For the most part, I liked Shaloush. I hate saying this, but I (well, more my character) really loved pissing him off. I had hoped for a few more interactions before all things were said and done, but oh well. Good luck with the next.
Cheers

“Feral griffon.” Enough said. Shaloush was exactly that. Most people just saw the tactlessness, the pooping, etc. He was not the easiest guy for most people to get along with, but to that I applaud your efforts. My character had the priviledge of observing his fierce loyalty… or maybe it was just a territorial nature. Whatever it was, it was enough to make him an unofficial Nerinan guard in Ryoichi’s mind. “Wild” as he was, he never did anything to slight that trust. Not only that, but the bird donated countless obsidian to the Talons. It built up to enough that after using “tribunal spend” (and not even using all of it) it pulled Zhenshi out of its perpetual recession for some 3 IRL days. A feat, to say the least, and maybe a sign that the economy system could use a little revision.

Excellent RP.
I’ve loved all your character concepts I can think of. And I have no idea why anyone would not? Your characters have all been additions to the RP enviroment, rather than the opposite as many of those revered have been.
On top of that I would like to point out for everyone that have failed to notice this, that it’s impressive how your characters have their own personality, rather than you just play the same character over and over and over again in different roles, as many others have the habit of.
Grats!
