1,000 Days

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2012/01/02

We are fast approaching the inglorious 1,000 day mark. No actual attempts by the Democrat-controlled Senate to write a Federal Budget for nearly 1,000 days. This despite the Constitutional imperative and the Federal Law requiring such.

In the run-up to the 2008 elections, Nancy Pelosi’s Democrat-controlled House and Harry Reid’s Democrat-controlled Senate refused to send a budget to Republican President George W Bush, waiting instead until Democrat Barack Obama was inaugurated. They then produced the most deficit-ridden, spend-happy budget in the history of the US. But since that April 2009 Budget — which was supposed to have been done before November 2008 — the Democrats have steadfastly refused to attempt to create a Budget.

As 2009 came to a close, there was no new Budget even proposed for upcoming 2010 from either of the Democrat-held Houses of Congress, and as 2010 came to a close, there was again no new Budget even proposed for upcoming 2011 from either of the Democrat-held Houses of Congress. The reason for their reluctance to do their Constitutional duty and their reluctance to obey Federal Law is very straight-forward: The Democrats feared if they produced a Democrat Budget plan, the national outcry to oust Democrats from office would be even greater than it already was.

In 2011, the new, Republican-controlled House of Representatives did their Constitutionally and Federally mandated duties and produced a Federal Budget, which they then sent to the Senate. And Harry Reid and his Democrat-controlled Senate refused to even attempt to obey Federal Law and the Constitution. Harry Reid refuses to even attempt a Budget despite being required by Law to do so. It has been over 975 days now since the last Budget was passed and it will be another 380 days before another Budget is even attempted in the US Senate.

And Democrats deign to speak about irresponsibility when they are so transparently irresponsible in their refusal to obey the Law? November, 2012 is looking better by the day.

First Solyndra, Then LightSquared, Now This

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/09/29

Solyndra got a half a billion dollar taxpayer-financed loan despite all the agencies and auditors warning against it. The Obama Administration tried to bully an Air Force 4-star General into changing his testimony regarding LightSquared in an attempt to deceive Congress. Both Solyndra and LightSquared have strong ties to Democrat donors and fund-raisers.

Hot Air has news concerning more, recent, Department of Energy loans to economically unfeasible companies with strong ties to Democrats. And the numbers are ugly. And the corruption and crony capitalism and pay-to-play is so strikingly obvious.

Here’s a bit of a run-down from Hot Air:
SolarReserve gets a 737 million dollar loan guarantee for a Nevada solar project from the Department of Energy.
SolarReserve has ties to George Kaiser.
George Kaiser raised 53,000 for Obama in 2008.
Kaiser is majority owner of Solyndra.
Kaiser’s firm votes on SolarReserve’s board.
Ron Pelosi has ties to SolarReserve.
James McDermott is a SolarReserve boardmember.
James McDermott contributed over 61,000 dollars to Democrat campaigns since 2008, including over 30,000 to Barack Obama.
James McDermott has ties with Harry Reid.
Lee Bailey is a SolarReserve boardmember.
Lee Bailey has donated over 21,000 dollars to Democrat campaigns since 2008. Beneficiaries include Obama, Reid, Boxer, Hillary.

First Solar got over 2 billion dollars in loan guarantees.
First Solar’s stock has fallen roughly 60 percent since February.
Michael Ahearn was an investor in First Solar but apparently got out while the gettin’ was good last month.
Michael Ahearn has contributed in excess of 100,000 to Democrats over the last several years.

SunPower got over 1 billion dollars in loan guarantees.
SunPower’s stock has fallen over 50 percent since April.
SunPower paid a lobbyist who has very close ties to Harry Reid in excess of 290,000 since 2009 to lobby for it.
SunPower contributed over 15,000 dollars to Democrats last year, with Harry Reid getting 4,000.
SunPower is predicted to lose money over the next couple years because their costs are too high for the market.

All in all, this “green jobs” slush fund the Obama Department of Energy is throwing around is greatly benefiting people who support Democrats — at the cost of harming the nation’s bottom line. Oh, by the way, SolarReserve’s loan guarantees came after Solyndra and LightSquared broke. Talk about Obama doing an “in your face” to the American people.

Obama “Jobs” Bill Fails Sniff Test With Senate Democrats

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/09/14

That’s right, folks, the Leftist slush fund and class warfare pandering bill Obama introduced and is touting is getting blasted by Senate Democrats who don’t have to worry about the 2012 elections. Let me say that again. Senate Democrats who don’t have to worry about getting their electorate to vote for them are saying “no” to Barack Obama.

Ed Morrissey quotes Pollutico (and since I don’t link to Pollutico, you’ll have to follow the link to the Hot Air story to find the Pollutico link):

As he demands Congress quickly approve his ambitious proposal aimed at reviving the sagging economy, many Democrats on Capitol Hill appear far from sold that the president has the right antidote to spur major job growth and turn around their party’s political fortunes.

“Terrible,” Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) told POLITICO when asked about the president’s ideas for how to pay for the $450 billion price tag. “We shouldn’t increase taxes on ordinary income. … There are other ways to get there.”

“That offset is not going to fly, and he should know that,” said Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu from the energy-producing Louisiana, referring to Obama’s elimination of oil and gas subsidies. “Maybe it’s just for his election, which I hope isn’t the case.”

“I think the best jobs bill that can be passed is a comprehensive long-term deficit-reduction plan,” said Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), discussing proposals to slash the debt by $4 trillion by overhauling entitlement programs and raising revenue through tax reforms. “That’s better than everything else the president is talking about — combined.”

And those are just the moderates in the party. Some liberals also have concerns.

Let’s be perfectly clear, shall we? Barack Obama never expected his “jobs” bill to ever get through the Republican-controlled House. In fact, Obama depended on it not getting through the House, so he could continue to blame the “obstructionist” Republicans for his abysmal failure. But a funny thing happened on the way to his deceitful campaign propaganda. Sane Democrats stood up to loudly reject his radical Leftist agenda.

This bodes well for Republicans and the US for the 2012 elections and the direction of the nation. But it also bodes well long-term.

Like a song sung simultaneously with two opposing sets of lyrics, Obama’s agenda and speeches and actions, when combined with the TEA Party movement’s agenda and actions, makes for beautiful music. Obama’s complete radicalization is being rejected even by Democrats and the Ruling Class Republicans’ spineless ever leftward shifting “go along, get along” garbage is being rejected by We the People. And the nation begins to recover and heal.

Contrary to the Democrat leadership and the mainstream media (same thing), the Republicans have not been shifting ever rightward since Reagan. Rather, it’s the Democrat Party that has been radicalizing since the JFK days. This is not your daddy’s Democrat Party. It is something completely alien, something completely radicalized.

Reagan moved the Republicans to the right, closer to where they should’ve been and once were. But then came George H W Bush, who rejected the Conservative Reagan Republican Caucus (while simultaneously coat-tailing it into the White House). Reagan’s shifting of the Republican Party to the right and the powerful electoral victories pushed the Democrat Party to the left as conservative Democrats migrated to the Republican Party. But as the elder Bush and the Statist Republicans worked to retake control of the Republican Party and shift it leftward again, the Republicans lost strength in Congress and lost the White House. And the Democrats continued their leftward shift.

Bill Clinton’s overreach caused the Republican wave of 1994 as once again the Republican Party shifted to the right, but not as far to the right as during Reagan. And many moderate Democrats switched over to the Republican Party. The combination of historic electoral losses and sizable numbers of defections caused the Democrat Party to lurch leftward. But the Ruling Class Republicans refused to take advantage.

George W Bush, with major help from Karl Rove, worked tirelessly to dismantle the remnants of the Reagan Republican Caucus as, once again, the Republican Party jumped to the left to fill in the void left by the leftward-lurching Democrats. And George W Bush cost the Republicans many seats in Congress during his tenure as a result. As ever consistent, the Democrat leadership continued its radicalization of the Democrat Party.

Enter 2008, with the most radical Leftist to ever win a major party nomination becoming President. And the radicalization of the Congress accelerated to new extremes. Suddenly, the people stood up and shouted “NO MORE!!” But the radical Leftists Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barack Obama, Charles Schumer, Rahm Emanuel and the rest of the Democrat leadership refused to listen to the people. Many of the radical Leftist Democrat leadership even mocked the people.

And 2010 happened, with the most sweeping rejection of Democrats at the polls since the 1930s. Unlike the 1994 Republican wave, where Bill Clinton changed course and co-opted Republican agenda items for himself, Barack Obama and the radicalized Democrat leadership continued on in its radical Left agenda. So, unlike 1996, where the people thought the Democrats were sane, the build-up to 2012 is seeing continued decay in the Democrat Party and continued outcry from the people and a continued growth in Conservatism in the US.

What do I see for the 2012 election? I see further big gains for Conservatives and Republicans. I see a further weakening of the Ruling Class Republicans within the Republican Caucus. I see a much further radicalization of the Democrat leadership as even more left of center Democrats lose elections, leaving, for the most part, only the most radical of Leftist Democrats in office. And I see the US healing from the wounds caused by the radical Left.

But beyond 2012 is the real question. As the NY-9 special election showed, where Bob Turner’s campaign was directed at sending Barack Obama a message, a great many Democrat voters are beginning to see their Democrat Party radicalized and are beginning to reject it. The question, after 2012, is will the Democrat everyman retake control of the party from the radicals running it into the ground, or will the Democrat Party become ever further radicalized into Socialism and thus relegated to a permanent minority party as the Republicans were for over 50 years of the 20th century? I would like to think the saner Democrats would wrest control of their party away from the radicals in charge now. But time will tell.

Regardless, Obama/Reid/Pelosi have done a great service to the country. They have awakened the country to the extreme radicalization of the Democrat party and the extreme radical agenda being pushed down the people’s throats in direct opposition to the people’s wishes. They have also awakened the country to the destruction caused by the Ruling Class Republicans. Sometimes, a body needs a good swift Gibbs head-slap to realize the dangers of current events, and that’s exactly what Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Wasserman-Schultz have done.

The future is indeed bright for the country.

“Where Is Your Plan?”

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/09/12

That is a lie in the form of a question the radical Left use constantly, and have been using constantly for years. Libertarians have formulated plans to rescue the nation’s economy. Conservatives have formulated plans to rescue the US economy. Those plans have been put out for public examination. Many of them have been available for examination for years. But the radical Left demand that Libertarians and Conservatives have no plan, just a raaaaacist hatred for “the black President.”

As “anecdotal” evidence of the radical Leftist mantra in action, I give you one Perry Hood, who regularly chants that mantra at Conservatives on Common Sense Political Thought. Delaware Libertarian found it necessary to write an entire article solely devoted to pointing out Perry Hood’s dishonorable lying chant.

So not only has an alternative been offered here, Perry, you went on record as agreeing with substantial parts of it–even though you seem to have … forgotten that part.

You have offered engaging insights and shown the willingness to admit that part of President Obama’s plan is a massive gamble with our future.

And you’re certainly free to disagree with anything we offer.

But please, stop suggesting that libertarians here have not been discussing solutions…

That article was written in March, 2009 so Delaware Libertarian was already tired of Perry Hood’s radical Leftist, wholly dishonest chant of “where’s your plan” way back in early 2009, right after Barack Obama was sworn in. People were tired of the lying accusation that the opposition had no plan years ago because there were plans years ago which were readily available for discussion, but Perry Hood soldiers on with his radical Leftist, dishonorable chant even to this day. Because he is incapable of allowing himself to be drawn in to discussing the various Conservative and Libertarian plans that are readily available for discussion.

Sarah Palin has a plan. Paul Ryan has a plan. Michele Bachmann (that’s one “l” and two “n”s, people) has a plan. Rick Perry has a plan. Tea Party Express has a plan. Tea Party Patriots has a plan. Contract From America has a plan. Freedom Works has a plan. Americans for Prosperity has a plan. Conservatives have plans. Libertarians have plans. Republicans have plans. There are many plans on the Conservative and Libertarian sides. There have been plans since before Obama became President. And they have been available for public discussion from the get-go. So radical Leftists like Perry Hood have to lyingly claim we have no plan in their wholly dishonorable, age-old, and worn-out chant “where’s your plan” in order to not have to discuss the plans they are dishonestly avoiding discussing.

Aside from all that, I have a question to ask the dishonorable radical Leftists like Perry Hood: Where’s your Budget? The radical Leftist Nancy Pelosi refused to even attempt a Budget from April, 2009 until the day the American people overwhelmingly threw her and the Democrats out of power in the House in the 2010 TEAnami. Despite Federal Law requiring they provide a Budget and the US Constitution giving them the responsibility of providing a Budget. To this day, Harry Reid has steadfastly refused to even attempt a Budget, again despite Federal Law requiring such and the US Constitution giving him and his fellow Democrat Senators the responsibility for such. It has been over 850 days. Where’s your Budget?

A Little About The Iowa Republican Debate

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/08/12

Once again, Mitt Romney was questioned about his RomneyCare. And once again, Mitt Romney tried to cover up his Big Government power-grab with the Tenth Amendment. Of course, Romney is using a Bell Curve dispensation of the Tenth Amendment, meaning a power-grab for Statists at the State level. But that’s not the meaning or goal behind the Tenth Amendment. The true goal and meaning of the Tenth Amendment is the Hyperbolic Curve dispensation. And once a Bell Curve “Tenther” gets into the Federal government, all pretenses at the Tenth Amendment will fall by the wayside. Because whatever issue will become too critical|severe|important to leave to the States. The Fed will “have to take power” away from the States.

The nut Ron Paul has decided that Iran should be able to build a nuclear arsenal, which would necessarily put Israel’s existence in jeopardy, to say nothing of millions of innocent lives in the Middle East.

Tim Pawlenty attacked Michele Bachmann but demurred in regard to Mitt Romney. But Michele Bachmann was ready and torched Tim Pawlenty. Hot Air has video of part of the Bachmann/T-Paw kerfuffle via Mediaite. (Since it is not a YouTube video, I cannot reproduce it here.) T-Paw tried that Leftist attack that Bachmann hasn’t succeeded in anything in Congress. By that metric, T-Paw would’ve told GEN Douglas MacArthur to go back to the States and retire after the Philippines fell to the far superior Japanese Army and Navy — despite the fact MacArthur’s extended delaying tactics were very crucial to the fledgling US war effort. And Bachmann hit back with T-Paw’s record of favoring Cap-and-Trade among other Big Government boondoggles while T-Paw was Governor. But Bachmann apparently left the stage during every commercial break. Bad form, that.

Newt Gingrich is asked about his Global Warming PSA with Nancy Pelosi. Newt’s response to someone asking a specific question about his record? He don’t want nobody hitting him with “gotcha” questions like that. Heaven forbid anyone ask him about his NY-23 endorsement of Leftist Republican DeDe Scazzafava, who in turn dropped out and endorsed the Democrat! Newt did hit Obama over the head on illegal immigration, so there’s that.

And there were some other also-rans on the stage as well.

My own take:
Bachmann won a few votes and lost a few votes, in effect, a wash.
T-Paw solidified his position as a second-tier candidate, to his detriment.
Ron Paul is still an absolute nut that cannot win the Republican nomination.
Mitt Romney is the strongest current squish candidate in a cycle where a strong Conservative is required.
If Newt Gingrich were a branding iron for the Rocking Circle R Ranch, he would have so many cold, dead spots that he would produce a smiley face instead of the Rocking Circle R brand.

With Perry, Palin, Guiliani on the outside possibly getting in, the Conservatives who were at the debate could quickly become also-rans and Romney could face a strong challenge from another strong squish.

Tom Harkin, Demagogue

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/07/21

Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat, Iowa, uses demagoguery, falsehoods, smears, defamation of character, false alternative fallacy, and all manner of other foul attacks for political gain. Real Clear Politics has the video. (HT Hot Air headlines)

Tom Harkin’s deceitful false alternative fallacy: Refusal to raise the debt ceiling means willingness to let the US default on its debts.

The truth: If the US debt ceiling is not raised, a couple hundred billion dollars a month will continue to roll in to the Federal coffers; more than enough to pay the interest on the debt, Social Security checks, military payroll and more. If the country defaults, the Obama Administration would be directly responsible as it would be the Obama Administration which refused to properly prioritize expenditures. The Republicans who refused to raise the debt ceiling would be blameless for a US default.

Tom Harkin’s flat-out lie: The Republican President, Republican House, Republican Senate of the previous 8 years is responsible for most of the debt.

Truth 1: The Democrats held the House of Representatives for the final 2 of George W Bush’s 8 years while the Democrats held the Senate for the first and last 2 of George W Bush’s 8 years, thus the Republicans only held all three for 4 of George W Bush’s 8 years while the Democrats held both Houses of Congress for the final two and one House of Congress for the first two.

Truth 2: During George W Bush’s 8 years in office, the total debt climbed less than 6 trillion dollars. Since the current debt is over 14 trillion dollars, George W Bush did not preside over “most of the debt”. During the four years the Republicans held both Houses of Congress and the Presidency, the total debt climbed 2.2 trillion dollars. That means the debt climbed faster the four years Democrats held a portion or all of Congress than the four years Republicans held all of Congress.

Truth 3: The deficit has never been as great as it was under the Democrat Obama-Reid-Pelosi Administration. The new Republican House of Representatives passed a Budget that would cut the deficit but the Democrat Reid Senate has refused to pass a Budget for over 800 days, despite federal Law mandating one. And Democrat President Obama sent a “Budget” which was so unserious, so deficit-rich that the Democrat-controlled Senate voted it down 97-0.

Chart source: Stephen Bloch

The deficit spending more than doubled when the Democrats took over Congress and nearly doubled again as Obama took over the Presidency, so for Tom Harkin (Democrat, Iowa) to make his claims, he had to lie through his teeth. And the only people who will believe his spewage are those who are ignorant of the facts or those who are fanatically invested in his agenda.

Budgets are generally finalized in the calendar year prior to the fiscal year for which they are written, but not always. For example, the Democrat Congress refused to write a Budget for FY2009 until Democrat Obama took his seat as President, and then pumped up the (deficit) volume.

Hey, Tom Harkin. Who is the more “cult fringe,” to use your term? Those who believe your lies or those who have the facts? I’d suggest to you that you learn to speak the Truth before you Dishonor yourself further, but you won’t listen anyway. After all, you have the game of politics to win. To heck with the little people.

Scott Walker Hits Planned Parenthood

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/06/22

Republicans in the US House of Representatives tried to defund the abortion mill Planned Parenthood (which has been caught engaging in criminal activity). Everyone knew, even the House Republicans, that such a defunding wouldn’t get past Obama’s desk, if it even got that far. But it made for a striking point of clarity: the US is deficit spending like there is no tomorrow and won’t even cut funds to an abortion mill, knowing full well that the abortion mill gets far more money outside government sources than it does from the government.

Well, the States are stepping up to the plate and exercising their Tenth Amendment rights. From Creative Minority Report comes news that Governor Scott Walker will sign the Bill that defunds Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin.

Walker is expected to sign a budget bill on Tuesday, making Wisconsin the fourth state to defund the abortuary. (Indiana, Kansas and North Carolina did so earlier this year.) Do you realize how much liberals hate Scott Walker right now? This trend of the states doing what the feds so miserably failed to do is awesome and it’s good for the country to bring some power back to the states. The days of us waiting for Washington to do something good is over. Make the fight on our own turf.

This is definitely a Pro-Life Social Conservative victory, but it’s also a Fiscal Conservative victory. And it’s a Tenth Amendment victory. And Tenth Amendment victories are coming a bit more rapid-fire of late. We have the Light Bulb Law, Illegal Immigration laws which multiple states have put in place since the Federal Government won’t do its job, the majority of States suing the Fed over ObamaCare, and the list of Tenther activities goes on.

And we have Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the Democrat Party to thank. It was the radical Leftist agenda and the Obama-Reid-Pelosi trifecta of Central Power over-reach that caused the TEA Party explosion. It was the TEA Party explosion that created a renewed and powerful focus on returning to the Constitution. It was the TEA Party explosion that caused the 2010 electoral tsunami — a tsunami that saw Republicans pick up over 700 seats in State and Federal Legislatures and Governorships and Big Government Republicans replaced with Limited Government Republicans. So, yes, we have Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the Democrat Party to thank for the powerful movement back to the Constitution.

Sometimes it takes the evil done by your enemies to finally bring about the awareness and spine necessary to bring about good.

Robert Reich Is All Wet

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2011/05/29

Things Robert Reich does not understand:

The TEA Party movement
Conservatism
Economics
Tax history
Regulatory history
That Big Business in bed with Big Government is Crony Capitalism and not Free Market
That our debt and deficit problems are spending problems and not revenue problems

What Robert Reich pushes:

Class Envy (which is a sin)
TEA Partiers are fake
TEA Partiers are real but they’re evil and insane
Conservatives want to hurt grandma and sick people
Only insane people don’t want to raise taxes and the debt limit

HT Hot Air Headlines

Robert Reich starts out with the same old false premises and Big Government memes as all Leftists and Big Government Republicans have been pushing for decades.

Who’s more influential in the Republican Party – the so-called Tea Party or Wall Street and big business?

There’s the “TEA Party is fake” attack. And there’s the false premise that Wall Street and Big Business is Republican. Let’s see how Republican Big Business is, shall we?
